In October/November of 2022 we were fortunate enough to take a family trip to WA to catch up with our amazing friends and beef producers Mark, Margaret and their family. Ben is up and back to the Kimberleys regularly, however this time we took a little longer and Carlie, Josie, 7 horses and 3 dogs made the 4000km journey also. Obviously travelling this distance with horses, dogs and a 2 year old is a slow process especially at that time of year with the extreme heat, so we took our time, travelling in the cooler parts of the day and having plenty of rest along the way. We are extremely pleased to report that much to our relief, Josie travelled like a champion and did not complain once about the time on the road, she was having way too much fun.
Once there, we were able to fit in some sight seeing and exploring of the local area, trained some horses and Josie had a wonderful time playing with friends. Of course there was work to do as well and cattle were assessed and plans made for the coming year and further into the future.
The long journey was absolutely worthwhile and a fantastic time was had by all. November is the end of the dry season, just before the wet sets in and the storms were building up around us as we finally said our goodbyes and headed for home. We cannot wait to make our next trip up there in the coming weeks to see the difference in the country after the wet season. It is such an amazing transformation to the landscape. A hot, dry, harsh country transformed into lush green pastures and abundant waterholes teeming with life. We thoroughly enjoyed catching up with Mark, Margaret and their family and thank them for their wonderful hospitality.
